A coalition of a large number of technologieconcerns, including Dutch parties such as KPN and Facebook, on the initiative of european Commissioner Kroes ‘ commitment to children on the internet to better protect against malicious content.
Among the companies that are behind the initiative itself, are Google, Facebook, Apple, Nokia, Samsung and Nintendo. Also Dutch names such as KPN and Hyves, the Belgian Netlog and the RTL Group from Luxembourg to support the project.
The parties pledge among other things, the privacy settings to adapt to the age of the user, so that contact details or photos only to a limited extent are to be seen. They also are committed to opportunities for parental supervision when, for example, internet services or to expand. Other objectives include providing better opportunities for the removal of material and to simplify the reporting of harmful content.
“This new coalition should provide both children and parents with transparent and consistent protection tools provide to make the best use of the online world”, says Neelie Kroes about the collaboration. The project is part of the Digital Agenda initiative of the Crucible.
