A pdf file in which specifications of Intel’s latest 520 series solid state drives are, is to be found on the ftp site of Intel. The ssd’s are not yet formally ge lwa site and may be delayed until the first quarter of next year.
On the basis of the specifications contained in the Intel document, the company would be 520-series of ssds, code named Cherryville, in the short term, want to introduce. The solid state drives would have capacities of 60, 120, 180, 240 and 480GB and a sata-600 interface can be provided. Which controller Intel for the Cherryville ssds will use is not clear, but the specifications seem to be on a Sandforce 2200 controller.
The sequential read and write speeds of the Cherryville ssd’s would be up to 550 and 520MB/s. Also the maximum iops that the drives get, 85,000 iops for read and 70,000 iops for write, pointing towards a SandForce controller. On The large SSD topic ~ Part 9′ is, however, considerable debate about which controller is Intel will use; a SF2200 would, in any case, Intel firmware should get it, while a Marvell controller features missing. On an Intel controller to the 25nm-mlc-flash memory device to send nothing is yet known.
The 520 series is already since april on Intel’s roadmap for the fourth quarter and, should the current 510-series ssds follow-up. Other than the roadmap suggested, would be the introduction of the 520 ssds, however, until the first quarter of 2012 to be postponed.
