The storage market seems to be a great year to experience. According to market researcher IDC, the business market for storage software the best year in almost ten years. In the third quarter, this market was good for 3.5 billion dollars, an increase of 9.7 percent.
The quarterly revenue of 3.5 billion dollars is the second highest revenue from sales of storage software in the past nine years. Only in the first quarter of this year was higher revenue achieved, as shown by measurements of marktvorser IDC.
For his so-called Worldwide Storage Software QView looks IDC to the actual converting of large companies as EMC, Symantec and IBM. The researchers make a distinction between seven different markets, such as for backup software, for management software and for security. In six of these markets establishes IDC in the past year, there have been growth; in four of these markets, even a growth of more than 10 percent.
So grew the markets for, respectively, the Archiving Software and Storage & Device Management Software with 12.2 percent and 11.3 percent compared to last year. Data Protection and Recovery Software accounted for 34,9 percent in the third quarter, sales in this market.
EMC, Symantec and IBM dominate the market for business storage software and together account for almost 54 percent of the market, with a market share of respectively 24.5 percent, 15.3 percent and 14 percent. HP, according to IDC, the greatest growth, though it came primarily through the acquisition of 3PAR.
