Hitachi has Deskstar-series extended with a hard disk that has a storage capacity of 4TB. The previous opslagrecord amounted to 3TB for a single 3,5″hard disk. The 4TB-Deskstar is loose, and if the external drive is available.
The Hitachi 4TB Deskstar 5K4000 is, as the name indicates, a hard disk with a capacity of 4TB. The platters of the drive running with 5900 revs per minute, making the disk at the same time, quieter and more fuel efficient than drives with 7200rpm platters. According to Hitachi are the energy savings of 28 percent, and the noise level to 25 decibels. Further specifications include a cache of 32MB, sata-600 interface and a recorded idle power of 4.9 W.
The 4TB drive is available as a inbouwdrive that as ‘kit’ is provided. The kit, however, includes little more than screws, a manual and software.
