According to Google ceo Eric Schmidt is funding Microsoft organisations in the European Union have complained about Google’s behavior. There is a study of the internetgigant; the question is whether that is a misuse of its market position.
Eric Schmidt, chairman of the Board of Directors of Google, did his statement about Microsoft during a meeting for journalists in The Hague. Schmidt claimed that Microsoft ‘complaint groups’, which in the European Union complained about Google, has funded. On the basis of these complaints is the European Union investigation into Google started, to see if the company abuses its dominant market position. Schmidt said have proof for his claims, but went no further. Moreover, Microsoft itself also one of the organisations involved in the European Union have complained.
One of the points on which criticism, was that Google in its search results to its own services as opposed to that of competitors. Schmidt says otherwise, however: “Our goal is to provide a user the best possible answer to give.” If Google itself is a better answer than any other website, Google shows its own results, suggests Schmidt. “We show, for example, the weather report, when users click the back to search,” he says. Thus, consumers would benefit. The company would therefore not concurrentiebelemmerend behavior. “We are convinced that we are in line with the law act,” says the ceo.
The ceo went on prior to the meeting with journalists along with the Commissioner about competition, but it would not substantively about the research have had. “It was a beleefdheidsbezoek,” says Schmidt, who said further not to know about the progress of the research. Next year is more known, expected the ceo. In the United States runs a similar mededingingsonderzoek, but also the results are not yet known.
