Dutch film industry is against approach individual downloader

Although the Dutch film industry is a great supporter says to his measures that the illegal supply of films would fight, is the same industry is not in favour of addressing individual consumers.

This is evident from a Monday sent urgent letter that several Dutch film related organisations to the Second Room have been sent. The letter is signed by the presidents of the Dutch Association of cinema operators, film Producers Netherlands, the Dutch Association of film distributors, Association of Dutch Animation Producers and Documentary Producers Netherlands.

According to the organisations it is high time that the Netherlands legislation does something to the “rampant theft” of movies over the internet. In their letter explaining the signed organizations are in favour of the by state secretary Teeven intended downloadverbod. “In the interest of a healthy film industry calls the Dutch film industry with some emphasis on to after years of debate, finally, to take measures,” said the signatories.

Despite the call to action, feel the Dutch film industry, not for addressing individual downloader. “The film industry has advocated no hunting on the individual consumer, but the approach of companies and misdaadsyndicaten on megaschaal every day copyright-protected works to the public. There is big money earned from films for which nothing is paid to the copyright owners. The fact that the Netherlands, as one of the two countries in Europe, downloading for private use, not prohibits, it makes the film impossible to defend against large-scale theft of movies on the internet.”

The film industry understands this and at the same position as, for example, Buma/Stemra and Brein, which has many years on behalf of various stakeholders advocating a downloadverbod. Also the Brain is not in favour of addressing individual consumers, already has Brain several times to indicate that if the legislation fails, it might still will decisions behind individual uploaders. It is remarkable that several artiestenbonden, under Buma/Stemra fall, against a downloadverbod.

At the end of last month revealed that a majority of the political parties against a downloadverbod is, but that state secretary Teeven of Security and Justice, the downloadverbod still want to enter. Teeven hopes by adjustment of the parties so far as to get a downloadverbod support. “I want to reach out to those parties, because otherwise it would be the us fails to enact legislation. That we do not want to.” Teeven does not say what adjustments need to be done.
