Chip maker AMD would plan to in the short term, the delivery of its Athlon II and Phenom II processors to cease. Consumers would need to relocate to the new processors that the company introduced: the apus and Bulldozers.
The lower segment should be operated with the simple Brazos platform, with less powerful accellerated processing units, or apus from the C – and E-series. Something more powerful pc’s have with the Llano, or A-series apus, the Fusion platform will be equipped. Both platforms have the Athlon II – and the entry-level Phenom II processors replaced. For the higher segment, where the faster Phenom II’s with four or six cores the service were, must then be diverted to the Bulldozer processors.
The phasing out of the Athlon II and Phenom II processors socket AM3 is perhaps a little premature. According to NordicHardware, however, remains only the Phenom II X4 960T, a Thuban-core based processor, with four of the six cores active. The site makes no mention of the Athlons that for the FM1 socket was introduced, such as the Athlon II X4 651.
Also the problems with the production of sufficient Llano-apus would be the phasing out of the older processors which is premature. AMD may not get enough Llano’s, which means the mid-market segment with deficits are facing. The higher segment, where the Bulldozers lord and master, is also by shortages plagued. Moreover, it is still not everyone is convinced that the latter cpus a performance gains as compared to the older generation entail.
