Turkey state providers in the short term to an internet filter that is pornographic and separatist material is supposed to stop. The filter is voluntary, and blocks, among other propaganda of the rebel group PKK.
The filter, that a few months ago by the Turkish parliament approved Tuesday is introduced, includes more than one hundred and thirty search terms that, according to the Turkish government to refer to ‘harmful content’. In the list there are words like ‘porn’ and ‘sex’. The Turkish government claims the society so as to protect against objectionable content. Also propaganda of the Kurdish separatist movement PKK would in this way be filtered.
With the current list, an estimated more than seven thousand web portals are filtered. That encounter in particular human rights defenders against the chest, the Deutsche Welle. They see the list of ‘harmful’ keywords as a form of censorship. The government is proposing, however, that the filter is voluntary; isps offer the filter as an option, but require it not. Over twenty thousand people would be all for the ‘safe web’ have chosen.
Except Turkey has also the Netherlands voluntary filters. The Evangelical Broadcaster offers a voluntary filter that children against pornographic material have to protect it. In addition, it wanted the European Commission to member states to impose an internet filter against child pornography. That proposal was later rejected.
