The South Korean government has started a test which the robots prisons guard. The robots have suspicious activity detection, but also sound the alarm if a prisoner for example is sick.
The trial lasts a month and starting in march will be held in a prison in the city of Pohang, writes The Wall Street Journal. The robots would work better than security cameras because they suspect activities themselves would recognize.
Also should the robots by prisoners can be used to sound an alarm, for example, in the case of illness. They are not in any case intended to act against the violent prisoners, emphasizes scientist Lee Baik-chul, who is under your supervision on the project.
The robots are intended only to correctional officers to assist. Who are positive about the robot, because that their workload could help to reduce, especially at night.
The reactions of the prisoners at the robots are still unknown, but scientist Lee admits that that is a point of concern. He and his team are still working on the appearance of the robot, to this kinder and more humane.
