The SUR40 is intended primarily for business use, for example, as a point-of-sale tool in a retail or other businesses. The surface of the table is a large multi-touch display on which multiple people can interact with data. Samsung makes for the SUR40 use of the latest generation Surface technology from Microsoft to use the touch screen with a diagonal of 40 inches and a resolution of 1920×1080. The viewing angle of the screen is 178 degrees in all directions, and the display has a brightness of 300cd/m2 and a contrast of 2000:1. The entire table measures just over a metre square and is about seventy centimeters high. The Surface table weighs in at just under forty kilograms.
The beating heart of the SUR40 is a dual-core Athlon X2 245e processor at 2.9 GHz clocked and equipped with 4GB of ddr3 memory. A AMD Radeon HD 6750 sends the display and storage space is provided by a hard disk of 320GB. Furthermore, two usb 2.0 ports, an hdmi port, and a gigabitnetwerkpoort present. The operating system of the SUR40 is a 64bit version of Windows 7 Professional.
