As users advance must give their permission for the indexing of the wi-fi access points, determining the location of little sense. This is evident from the words of Googles highest privacybaas. The company therefore opts for an opt-out.
Last week it was revealed that the Second chamber’s Members were not satisfied with an opt-out option for people who wanted to prevent their router was included in a database with location information. Instead, it argued the Second Room for an opt-in, where users are aware must give their permission before they are included. Location positioning by wi-fi access points is used to mobile phones faster and more reliable in their location to search.
According to the privacy commissioner of Google, Alma Whitten, has opt-in to that location via wi-fi makes little sense, as there is inevitably much less wi-fi access points to be included. “Positioning relies on the assumption that it is allowed to wi-fi access points to scan,” said Whitten at a meeting in Amsterdam. “Just as search engines rely on the assumption that it is allowed to websites to index.” Location-aware via gps and cell towers is less suitable, sets Whitten: gps has a heavy load on the battery, while triangulation via cell towers is less reliable.
In both cases, it is possible to indicate that you have any objections, according to Whitten. “Search engines use the robots.txt file and positioning now, so by your ssid to match.” Whitten hopes that other companies networks to scan, such as Skyhook Wireless and Microsoft, as the method of Google to take over.
