Cheap part for wireless 1.5 Gbps connection developed

Japanese researchers have developed a prototype for a device that the 300GHz frequency used for wireless speeds of 1.5 Gbps. It is smaller than a coin and would be inexpensive to produce.

The Japanese company Rohm in developing cooperation with the university of Osaka. The researchers used a resonant tunneling diode combined with an antenna in a surface area of 1.5 to 3mm. The result is a device that can make use of the terahertz band for wireless communication. It would also serve as detectieonderdeel to mutual communication.

Similar devices could only be a size of 20cm2, claims Rohm, while they are also a lot more expensive to produce. The Japanese invention would be cheaper to produce and smaller, and yet higher speeds.

The manufacturer thinks that, for example, televisions to use them. Rohm points out that there are tv’s with 4k resolution is coming and that there is great need comes to technology to process large amounts of data over and over again. In the future, even 30Gbps speeds at your fingertips, allows Rohm.
