Toshiba, Sony and Hitachi merge lcd-branches together

Manufacturers Sony, Toshiba, and Hitachi are going to their business units for small and medium-sized displays merge. The three groups will bring the industries under Japan Display; a company that in the spring of 2012.

Japan Display is 70 percent owned by the Innovation Network Corporation of Japan, a fund of Japanese companies and the Japanese government. The semi-state company invests converted 2.6 billion in Japan Display. The money will among other things, new production lines are set up.

Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi each get a share of 10 percent. Previously signed between the parties, a letter of intent to merge the lcd-branches. They have now the contract is finally signed and announced the new company in the spring of 2012 should start. It only goes to the manufacturing facility for small and medium-sized lcds, such as displays for mobile phones and cameras.

That production will, in part take place at the Mobara facility in Japan, a plant of Panasonic Liquid Crystal Display. Panasonic has also on Tuesday announced its Mobara plant to sell to the newly formed Japan Display. The consideration is not disclosed, but in previous posts there was almost 186 million euros.
