Scientists improve recording of breinsignalen

A new recording device, which consists of 720 transistors distributed over 360 channels, the recording of signals in the brain to improve. This may include better brain-computer interfaces are created.

The transistor array is made of thin nanomembranen and is bendable. This allows surgeons to access the device easier to implant than conventional electrodes arrays. The result is that, in more parts of the brain signals can be incorporated than was previously possible. The transistors in the array use active multiplexing, so there is less wires are needed to transmit signals to a remote computer to send. Conventional passive electrodes-arrays are connected with many wires, what implantation in the brain is also hampered.

The inclusion of breinsignalen is used in brain-computer interfaces. This may, for example, with mind equipment to be controlled. In the past, was there any success with it booked, among others, by a man with his thoughts and a robotic arm control.

In animal bioassays, it is shown that the new recording device is able to collect data that previous electrode-arrays is not possible. Thus, among other breinpatronen included in epilepsy. Due to the high sensitivity can distinguish between normal and abnormal signals sent by the brain are transmitted.

According to scientists, such recording devices in the future also be used for biological mechanisms to unravel that underlie a disease. However, it is still unclear when the first trials with humans to start.
