Researchers develop stretchable transistors

Researchers have graphene used to make transistors to develop that can meerekken with a stretchable substrate, and at the same time largely transparent. The transistors for flexible displays can be used.

The combination of stretchable and transparent electronics, it is hard to realize, but necessary for, for example, the creation of flexible displays. The electrical characteristics in the line to suffer from the stretching of semiconductors, while a good stretchy materials in a sub-optimum transparency. A group of researchers of the South Korean universities in Seoul and Suwon claim, however, in graphene, a material found to have the desired characteristics.

The researchers have developed transistors from graphene built up and on a flexible substrate attached. They made their transistors by using graphene on a copper substrate, layer by layer to build up and different parts in it to etching. Then, the transistors on a flexible substrate surface and were components, such as electrodes, it is printed. Printing under low temperatures take place, what the production easier.

In tests in which the grafeentransistors on a rubber substrate were printed, they were at least a thousand times five percent to be able to be stretched. When they were further stretched, the electrical properties rapidly worse. The researchers provide an application of their transistors in foldable, rollable and stretchable displays, but also in sensors for medical applications and in robotics.
