New polarizing filter should energy consumption lcd to reduce

Teijin DuPont Films Japan has a new polarizing filter for lcd’s designed that the light from the backlight more effectively utilized. The filter can be used to lcd’s with a higher brightness or lower energy consumption to realize.

An lcd on the front and back polarisation filters which are relative to one another sideways, so that only light with a certain wave direction is transmitted. The liquid crystals sandwiched between two glass plates, that is a pixel ultimately, whether or not displayed on the screen. A disadvantage is that only a part of the light from the backlight behind the panel that way is useful in use. The majority is absorbed by the polarizer.

Teijin DuPont Films Japan has now, according to Tech-On a new polarizing filter has been developed that the light that is not of the proper polarization, is reflected to the side of the backlight. As soon as this light on the white reflection plate behind the backlight, it is reflected forwards. A part of the reflected light has the right polarization to the filter to pass through.

Lcd’s on the basis of this new polarizing filter can with the same backlight strength a fifty percent higher brightness to achieve or, at constant brightness, thirty percent less energy.

Teijin DuPont Films Japan’s new polarization filter is composed of two different types of polyester films, which the company specially developed for this purpose. The filter is 100µm thick, but the company has not disclosed how many layers it is made up.

The new, efficient polariser with a number of adjustments to be produced with the current production lines and the company expects within a few years to start mass production. The filter can also in larger sizes to be produced for hdtv. Teijin DuPont Films Japan expected with the new polarizer in 2015 a turnover of approximately 94 million euro.
