New Exynos-soc using big.Little concept

Samsung is coming in 2012 with a new Exynos-soc that uses ARM’s big.Little concept. This is a fuel-efficient Cortex A7 core, combined with different processor cores for maximum performance are made.

That made Samsung chief executive John Kalkman announced at ARM Techcon 2011. By making use of ARM’s big.Little-concept, the power consumption of the new system-on-a-chip to be reduced, while the performance increase. With this technique, ARM’s efficient Cortex A7 core, combined with several powerful processing cores. It is likely that the Cortex A15 core, which, in 2012, in products is expected.

With this announcement, it is now clear that Samsung in 2012, with two new Exynos chips. Previously announced the manufacturer that the current Exynos 4210, which is used in the Galaxy S II, a successor in the 4212. This will clock to 1.8 GHz and more economical by the use of a 32nm process. Samples of the 4212 should this year have come true.

Nvidia uses a similar chipopbouw in its Tegra 3. It contains five Cortex A9 processing cores, one of which is low clocked and extra fuel-efficient transistors are used, a so-called companion core. This takes all the simple tasks and running when the phone is idle, while the other cores are turned off.
