Telefoonverkopen in Western Europe walked this summer, reports research firm IDC. The decrease could be due to a lack of demand for cheap mobile phones and the fact that the iPhone this year not in the summer came out.
It happened for the last time in early 2009 that the telefoonverkopen decreased. The decrease could be due to the fact that people have their devices longer use, and have been waiting until new devices came out. Especially the later release of the iPhone played according to IDC: Apple released the iPhone in recent years in the summer, but this year he came only in October in the shops. Growth was especially for Android devices in the middle segment, in which devices such as the HTC Wildfire S, Samsung Galaxy Ace and Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro to compete.
Worldwide grew in the call market, with double figures: in total, 393 million phones worldwide over the counter, 12.8% more than in the summer of last year. Growers were Apple and Samsung, both of which slightly more than 20 percent, more and more devices sold. The Chinese manufacturer ZTE grew the most and sold almost 60 percent more phones. Big loser is LG, which is a quarter less phones sold. LG is still the global number three, but IDC expects that Apple, the Korean manufacturer’s next quarter is going to catch up. Nokia remains far and away the market leader.
IDC measures the sales on the number of shipped devices, the number of phones that manufacturers supply providers and retailers. That is regarded as good indication for the actual selling; service providers and retailers order often only what they think they sell.
