Toshiba makes 6,1″display with 498ppi

Toshiba Mobile Display has a 6.1″lcd with a resolution of 2560 by 1600 pixels has been developed. This provides a not previously achieved pixel density of 498ppi. Toshiba shows the lcd for the first time at the FPD International 2011 exhibition in Yokohama.

Toshiba Mobile Display has for the fine structure of the screen, among other uses ltps-tft technology on a glass substrate. Toshiba would with the screen to meet the demand for the display of larger amounts of information on screens for smartphones and tablets.

The 6.1″lcd has a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a viewing angle of up to 176 degrees. The panel covers 61 percent of the ntsc color space. The number of colors that a maximum can be displayed is 16.7 million. It is not published which pixeltechnologie Toshiba for the screen used.

Although the new Toshiba lcd only 2d display supports, hint the company on the option for 3d viewing in a next version of the lcd. Competitor Hitachi pulled out earlier, such a trick from by first a 4.5″lcd on to announce with a resolution of 1280 by 720 with only 2d display, a number of months later, followed by a 3d version of the panel.
