BlackBerry-maker RIM has a service, announced that allows users to share content via near field communication. With the new service it is possible to take photos and videos wirelessly to exchange.
For the use of the service, which RIM known as BlackBerry Tag, it is a unit with BlackBerry OS 7, the latest version of the mobile operating system. Also, the smartphone feature a nfc chip to allow the service to work, currently only the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 and the Curve 9360 are supported. BlackBerry Tag will be coming soon with a software update available.
With BlackBerry Tag, besides multimedia files exchange, possible to contacts, documents, and urls to send two BlackBerry phones close to each other. Also, there is integration with BlackBerry Messenger; users will automatically be added to each others contact list for the instant messaging service included by using the Tag-service with each other.
According to the Canadian BlackBerry-maker, there are apis for the nfc service to be made public, allowing developers the functionality in their apps can handle. Thus, it is possible to users through nfc content from an app to share. RIM was not known when software makers about the apis.
RIM is not the only one with nfc-services. Previously announced, Google already has a mobile payment system on the basis of the korteafstandstechnologie. Currently, however, only American users of the device Google Nexus S the service to use. Also several Nokia phones have nfc.
