Three Brabant police department have an app developed in which the offences on the spot can be captured on camera. The departments of Best, Oirschot and Son en Breugel want the photos and videos as evidence.
The police are offering the so-called security app, Police, FOREST, free to for tablets and smartphones in the App Store and the Android Market. Residents of Best, Oirschot and Son en Breugel with the program include a crime report. Also, there are apbs and controls of the police. Police FOREST is for the moment the first police app that provides this functionality.
The application was developed on the initiative of the local police department and municipalities. The intention is that the inhabitants except crimes also other dangerous situations to report. “Then we have, for example, about fallen trees or accidents,” comments spokesman Henri van Pinxteren. The program can therefore make use of location information. However, it is also possible to have that option not to use it.
The police weigh all incoming messages carefully. Abuse would therefore not be allowed to come, says Van Pinxteren. “If it appears that certain users regularly false positives do we speak to them. In that respect, it works the application is not otherwise than 112.”
