Intel opens r&d labs for green energy and security

Intel realizes his two latest research and development labs in Ireland and Germany. In Ireland, a research lab for green energy open, while at the German TU Darmstadt institute for security will open.

During the openingskeynote of the Research@Intel-meeting at Intel’s Irish campus announced that cto Justin Rattner is the creation of two new research labs. The two r&d institutes are connected to Intel’s network of research institutes, of which there are about twenty-five are active in Europe.

The Irish Energy And Sustainability Lab will focus on energy saving among consumers. This techniques that are already in Intel Labs were shown, further developed. This will include a major role for energiemonitors in houses and office buildings current energy consumption to the user. The charging of electric cars without the energy grid at peak times to overload was also as an example have been proposed.

In the field of security have already been steps made; the acquisition of McAfee and the installation of encryption algorithms in processors are well known examples. With the creation of the Security Institute at the TU Darmstadt in Germany, is screening centralized. The lab begins its operations in January 2012 and will focus on usage models, hardware and software. This research is being done to secure communication protocols between devices, a secure software layer and the hardware that supports it.
