The European Commission has fined a total of 128 million euros handed out to four companies for price-fixing for the production of glass for crt tv’s and monitors. The companies have cooperated with the EC investigation.
The research of the European Commission, started in 2008 as a result of suspicions of cartel, brought to light that between 23 February 1999 and 27 december 2004, the companies are Samsung Corning Precision Materials, Nippon Electric, Scott, and Asahi Glass price agreements have been made about crt glass for tvs and monitors in the European region.
Of the four need Samsung Corning Precision Materials is no penalty to pay because this company is the first information on the cartel was provided to the European Commission. According to the Leniency Notice of 2006 will get the whistleblower of a cartel under conditions of ‘full immunity’, so that the dance originates in regards to the imposed fines.
Nippon Electric has a fine received from 43 million euros. This deduction amount is including the halving due to the leniency notice of the EC and an additional reduction of ten per cent due to involvement in the research. The cooperation this enabled the Commission to refer the matter earlier to finish.
Scott and Asahi Glass have respectively 40 million and 45 million euro fine. The initial penalty to Scott was 18 percent reduced due to participation which are not under the Leniency Notice, whilst in the deduction amount between the two companies is taken into account that they are not in any aspect of the cartel participated. Both Scott as Asahi Glass, just as Nippon Electric company, an additional ten percent discount on the fine due to the provision of assistance.
