Sony wins Pwnie award at hackersconferentie

Sony has the Pwnie award for ‘epic fail’ won on hackersconferentie Black Hat. The Pwnies are the awards for the best hacks of the past year. Computer hacker group LulzSec silver-plated two nominations not and saw Stuxnet win.

Sony won the “Pwnie” because of the security holes that last year were uncovered. The hack of the PlayStation Network, wherein the account information of tens of millions of gamers were captured, are mentioned in the motivation to Sony as the winner.

The creators of the worm Stuxnet got the award for “epic 0wnage’. Stuxnet was used to break in to the systems that the Iranian nuclear opwerkingscentrifuges states. That country therefore believes that Stuxnet is made by enemy countries, such as United States.

The Pwnies are the awards for most appealing hacks, and were this week awarded during the hackersconferentie Black Hat in the U.s. city of Las Vegas. LulzSec, the computer hacker group, who frequently came in the news with hacks in recent months, won nothing. A spokesperson tells Forbes that the profit for Stuxnet is rightly. “Stuxnet was a great piece of work. But the creators of them had probably millions of dollars of funding, while we just for the fun of it did.”
