The company Smart Modular Technologies has a solid state drive for the enterprise market announced that within a 2.5″enclosure has a storage capacity up to 1.6 TB. The Optimus ssds would read speeds up to 1GBps to achieve.
Smart contends that his Optimus ssds are available in versions with storage capacities of 200GB, 400GB, 800GB and 1.6 TB. Use is made of mlc flashchips. According the manufacturer, there are with the Optimus, the ssd’s throughput speeds to up to 1GBps in sequential leesacties and 500MBps for writes. For this purpose, the solid state drive be connected via the two 6Gbps full duplex sas interfaces; and a sata connector is not present.
The for server applications referred to Optimus would at random leesacties 100,000 iops to achieve, while writes up to 50,000 iops achievable. The ssd makes use of a not further described controller according to Smart on various mechanisms to the stored data to protect against data loss.
The power consumption of the ssd is 7W. Smart gives five years warranty on its Optimus ssds. Prices for the various models are, however, not released yet.
