The NMa does not have the green light for the takeover of Caiway by KPN. The supervisor will investigate further. It is feared that the competition in the Westland, the acquisition will greatly be reduced.
KPN announced in may that the Caiway will take over. The acquisition is, however, challenged, as the Dutch competition Authority, after a preliminary examination suggests that the competition in the Westland would greatly be reduced. According to the supervisor, would KPN both the cable and the copper network in the catchment area to get your hands on, making the choices for consumers may be in jeopardy. The NMa argues that the OPTA are sure to share.
The NMa concludes that KPN for the acquisition of a licence is necessary and that further investigation will take place. This research should, if the parties to a licence application to submit, within thirteen weeks of a final judgment about the question whether the acquisition may or may not continue, and which terms and conditions may be connected.
With the acquisition of Caiway by KPN CIF, the current owner of the kabelaar, stipulated that KPN’s future fibre optic network for third parties should open up. The NMa, however, doubtful whether competitors of KPN are interested, partly because the telecommunications company is no interesting offers will do.
