HTC has the American company Dashwire bought. Dashwire makes software to transfer music, videos and other files on the phones via a web-based service to store and make it accessible, and is regarded as a small competitor of Appleās iCloud.
For the acquisition of Dashwire puts HTC 13 million euro on the table, as stated in the announcement on the investeerderswebsite of HTC. Both the Taiwanese smartphonemaker as the American webopslagbedrijf have no further information about the purpose of the acquisition is done. It is, however, obvious that HTC is the technology of Dashwire will be integrated in smartphones and tablets.
Dashwire makes software that allows virtually all content from a phone to a server can be stored, including telephone logs, text messages and bookmarks but also photos and videos. That data can then with a web browser on the desktop to be viewed. This is the functionality further than what HTC offers with its web-based service HTCSense.com. Apple offers this fall with iCloud, a similar service. Incidentally, Microsoft is one of the shareholders of Dashwire.
Dashwire offered his services to the acquisition not to consumers: manufacturers and providers could be the technology in the license, and thus under his own name, backup services offer. Dashwires backupdienst works on legacy platforms like Symbian S60, and Windows Mobile, but also Android is supported.
