Dutchman makes app for dslr to control it from Android phone

The Dutch developer Chainfire has an application made, that a Canon dslr can be controlled from an Android phone or tablet. The app can be used to change settings or to take pictures.

The paid app is already in the Android Market, but according to Chainfire, still a trial version. With the app, and the user settings on a dslr camera change, and take photos. The dslr is controlled via the touchscreen of an Android device. For now, Chainfire’s only been tested on a Samsung Galaxy S II with custom rom, because the phone with that as a usb host can serve. Also, Android tablets with Honeycomb version 3.1 or later would be compatible.

The app works with various dslr’s from Canon, even though it is still not optimal. In future releases will Nikon devices can also be supported. So is the Live View mode is visible at 15fps, which is jerky picture, and can in the trial version, still app crashes occur. Furthermore, the user will need a cable that allows the Android device as a usb host can be used.
