A good three weeks before the start of the Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro (5. to 21. August) is not sold nearly a third of the tickets. A spokesman for the organizing Committee confirmed on Wednesday. “We have sold more than 70 percent of the available Tickets,” the spokesman said in a written statement: “we are ahead of our targets. Our goal is to sell all the Tickets.”

The number of unsold tickets is around 1.7 million. Brazil is hosting the first summer games on the South American continent, in the midst of a political crisis and economic recession. The Zika Virus and the ongoing security issues make for difficulties.
