Matthews out-Sagan

It is his first victory in the tour de France: Australian Michael Matthews celebrates on the tenth stage. The Yellow Jersey of the overall leader also carries a two-time Tour winner.

A strong breakaway group has the sprinters on the tenth stage of the 103. Tour de France stole the Show. Michael Matthews, the outliers, the fastest of originally 15, secured to 197 miles in Revel the day’s victory. The 25-year-old Australian referred to the world champion Peter Sagan and Norwegian Edvald Boasson-Hagen on the courts. The final spurt on the homestretch of Revel had six riders in the attack.

Slovak Sagan, at the start of the Tour three days in the Yellow Jersey, missed his second stage success. The Tinkoff-captain Mark Cavendish took the Jersey back to the Green.

The British last year’s winner Chris Froome defended his Yellow Jersey, without effort of his 16-second lead before his compatriot Adam Yates. The field of riders, with Froome at the top passed the finish line, 9:39 minutes after the day’s winner.

The Giro-winner Vincenzo Nibali and this year’s Tour-stage winner Greg Van Avermaet and Stephen Cummings were also members of the top group. Other celebrities pulled off to the side, so that the outlier against the rest of the field fought with almost equal strength. 25 kilometers from the finish Sagan had arranged for a selection, only seven drivers held up his Tempo.

On the short descent after the last climb to the top of the formation lost two more riders. But on the final straight, the forces Sagan’s not enough – the Puncher Matthews was not to beat. “Yes, the way it works. At least I have the Green Jersey again,” said a not-very-happy-acting Sagan at the finish.

Early Breakaway Group
