Comment: weapons are only part of the problem
Again, the democratic members want to fight with a sit-in blockade for stricter gun laws. This is to the public. To the actual problems, it changes very little, says Ines Pohl.
Already on 23. June protested the Democrats in Congress. With: John Lewis, Veteran of the civil rights movement
When seasoned policy comes to indoor and politicians nothing more than to take up arms in the civil rights movement, is obvious: It comes to something that is more important and bigger than the everyday small small of the deputies.
Led by John Lewis, who fought with Martin Luther King for equal rights of Blacks, protested Democrats two weeks ago for the first Time with a sit-in blockade in Congress – all day and all night long. This Tuesday do you want to do it again, because they see no other way to force the house divided on a substantive engagement with their demand for stricter gun laws.
The ugly face of the USA
In this struggle the political America is revealed to be hässlichstes face: this shows how incompetent this country has become, to adopt across party lines and political calculation to ignore laws for the good of the people. And not only the supposed advantage of a party or individual politicians.
In this specific case, it is as simple as it is, ultimately, brutally so that fewer people lose daily meaningless your life. Over 25,000 were shot in the past year, to die daily, seven children younger than twelve years, each month, to be shot in an average of 50 women of your Partner. In the meantime, more people die by guns than car accidents in the United States.
Cultural Heritage
The right to bear arms is written into the Constitution. This is the main argument of the weapons of the defenders. Strangers fear of strangers, can’t understand it. But that’s how it is with cultural heritage: Not everything in terms of social practice, is necessarily the time. In Germany, too, there are things that many non-German surprise: is That you, for example, with many historic and for very good reasons, from military operations abroad, prefer to keep. But at the same time, with growing arms exports to the Wars all over the world a lot of money earned. Sincerely is not.

And to be honesty it’s not even in the debate in the United States for quite a long time. It is a question of law, and Power in this two-party system, in which already for a long time to the most reasonable compromise is fought.
Now what all this means for the current sit-in? Perhaps we will again see strong images of veteran human rights activists who have stayed together the night huddled on the floor. Really will impress you but also this time only those, and already are convinced that the laws need to be tightened when it comes to the possession of weapons.
The struggle for more justice
This is not to say that such an action is wrong. But it may only be a part of the struggle for better conditions of life for many Americans.
Because the issue of gun violence, it always involves racism, education, social injustice and an inadequate health system. It comes especially in poor areas, where above average, lots of Black life, most of the shootings, is no coincidence. It’s been researched for a long time that the broken social and family structures promote violence. And every study shows that many of the perpetrators suffer from massive psychological problems are not treated, because the people are insufficiently or not covered by health insurance, and neither diagnosis nor treatment can afford.
Alone the fight for stricter laws jumps to short. And the Democrats need to understand that the striking fighting for less guns in the streets, hardly anything, really, when more and more people feel left behind and the dream to give up to the rich America. That’s why it needs to go in the fight for less weapons is always the fight for more justice.
