Hostage-taking in the capital of Bangladesh

Armed brought in the diplomatic quarter of Dhaka, in a Restaurant, several people, including foreigners. Security forces prepare for an exemption.

Eight to nine attackers have stormed in the night to Saturday (local time), the Spanish Restaurant “Holey Artisan Bakery” in the diplomatic quarter of Dhaka and the staff and guests hostage. In an exchange of fire two policemen were killed. To known the attack, the extremists militia “Islamic state” (IS) in a message the news Agency Amak. Reports of the IS that it is already close to two dozen hostages had been killed, were confirmed by the local authorities first, or denied. The IS released a short time later on the Internet photos to see which claims to be the corpses of foreigners in the Restaurant.

Police is preparing to storm

Meanwhile, armed soldiers moved in on them hard in front of the building in the diplomatic quarter. “It can go in the next hour,” said a security official. So far, the police have been able to establish contact with the hostage-takers, it said from other sources.

The chief of the special police of Bangladesh, Benzir Ahmed, said that among the hostages in the Gulshan district were also several foreigners, in a TV report, there was talk of seven Italians.

At the time of the offence have been some 20 people in the Restaurant. A large contingent of police and security forces sealed off the area around the Restaurant. The restaurant is located in the vicinity of the Qatari Embassy and the foreigners are popular clubs.

Islamist Attack?

Some employees managed to flee from the Restaurant. One of them told a local television station that the attackers had “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is great) when they attacked the Restaurant. Since the beginning of 2013, the Muslim Bangladesh is suffering with around 160 million inhabitants,
under a serial-motivated attacks on the Islamist.
