Comment: Referendum move

The honourable member Jo Cox was murdered. Another man injured. Hatred overshadowed by the EU Referendum in the UK. So it can’t go on, says Bernd Riegert.

The UK is shocked. More. Many Europeans, for the British Referendum, and also many Europeans in Brussels, responsibility, are horrified. The question is: Is it really all worth it? How can it be that the political dispute over the course of the UK calls for a death toll?

The cowardly killer seems to have a hatred killed. The grieving husband of the murdered deputies. Hatred against the political class, against the Establishment, against a completely false picture of the EU. This was not only a coward’s senseless murder of a mother, a political Talent. The act is also an attack on democracy in the UK. How could it come to this?

Europe Correspondent Bernd Riegert

With less hardness, with incredible mud battles, lies, false Numbers, absurd claims, and fear mongering have poisoned both sides of the political climate. The Brexit advocates, Adolf Hitler tried, the Soviet Union, invasion fantasies, and asylum seekers flooding to the people to scare. The Brexit opponents saw the world of peace, prosperity, and Europe as a Whole in danger. Also stoking up Fears, but by far not as drastic as the right-wing populist “Leave”campaigns. The demagogue Nigel Farage, the independence party should ask himself whether he has overstepped the mark.

Worse still, it pushed the extreme right-wing “Britain First” party, which hates according to their website the white Left and critical journalists. Still, it is unclear whether the killer has called for his heinous act on the party “Britain First”, but there are eyewitnesses who claim exactly that. A spokesman of the “Britain First” is not entblödete, every connection and deny and the media tires for your coverage suit.

In the UK the parties are not to wear, the bearings in a heated Referendum battle, while the legal guilt of the crime, but you have to bear responsibility. Responsibility for the aggressive atmosphere, which could have incited the perpetrator. The United Kingdom has experienced political assassinations in the confrontation with the Northern Irish terrorists. However, the last crime of a member of Parliament is already 26 years old.

Also in Germany, the political mood is more aggressive. The politically-motivated violence from the right and from the left to take in the debate on refugee policy. Also in Germany there have been similar attacks like the one on Jo Cox. Fortunately, the SPD have survived-Chancellor candidate Oskar Lafontaine (1990), Minister of the interior Wolfgang Schäuble, (1990), and Cologne’s mayor-candidate for Henriette Reker (2015).

In one week, voters in Britain should decide now whether you want to leave the EU or not. The? The EU advocates have interrupted their campaign for 24 hours. The Brexit camp moved. A day of ceasefire is not enough: The British Referendum should be postponed for a few weeks, so tempers can calm down, fear and hatred from the election campaign repaid. You must now take a step back and ask yourself, how could it come to this? We really want to do so? At least, that’s the UK now, Jo Cox and her family guilty.
