Look at: protection of the Andean bear

The objective of the project: protection of the remaining Andean bear and the Manu national Park, to ensure that humans and animals get along together
Project partners: International climate protection initiative (IKI) and the Frankfurt Zoological society (FZS)
Location: Manu National Park, Peru
Project Budget: 2.000.000 Euro
Project duration: 11/2012 to 10/2017
Species diversity: In the Manu national Park is the greatest wealth of bird, reptile, and amphibian species of the world, here is the home of the Andean bear (spectacled bear) and the giant otter

Manu is one of the most species-rich national parks of the earth. It stretches from Peru’s land of the Andes to the Amazon basin; from the mist-shrouded mountain forests at around 3000 meters altitude, deep in the jungle. Rare birds, reptiles and insects can find a home here. And also over 200 species of mammals, such as Jaguar, Puma and the Andenbär. Tremarctos ornatus is the only bear in South America. Around 25,000 of them to give it to. Their habitat is due to deforestation and climate change, getting smaller and smaller. In addition, agriculture makes to create the animals. It always comes back to conflicts with farmers, if the bears in the corn fields, eat, or of the goats tear. A project of the Frankfurt Zoological society has been studying Andean bears and trying to find ways to avoid conflicts with the people.
