VW: The American nightmare

Volkswagen has trouble in the USA only more and more VWs back in the workshop, the paragraph breaks, the “diesel gate”processing is progressing. Worst of all: there’s no relief in sight.

Sales of Volkswagen in the United States is also nearly a year and a half after the exhaust manipulation are in free fall. While many of its competitors sold on the second-largest passenger Car market in the world after China in March, more cars, VW by a further ten percent to just under 27,000 vehicles down.

Overall, the US market is well on the way to develop, thanks to lower Fuel prices, near-Zero interest rates and low unemployment as well as for years.

Volkswagen aside, there was for the German car maker in the US, too, light as shadow: The Daimler subsidiary Mercedes posted in March, a sales decline of almost six percent to around 28,000 cars, while in the case of the VW subsidiary, Audi of 7.5 percent to nearly 18.400 vehicles to the top.

VWs are not fit for the US market?

In the middle of the Diesel-exhaust-gas scandal, Volkswagen had to start again on Friday a recall in the United States. Overall, it was a matter of 91.000 Passat-models from the years 2012 to 2014, said a VW spokesman. Due to faulty seals, it could cause a short circuit. Vehicles outside of the United States were not affected.

The editorial recommends

New suits, new pieces of the puzzle in the VW exhaust scandal, but nothing really concrete. The group needs to finally enlighten on the offensive, otherwise he is lost, says Henrik Böhme. (18.03.2016)

For half a year, the exhaust gas scandal has been brewing in the VW, and the end is not in sight. Although the group promises to improvement and, above all, unbroken awareness, but real progress are not visible. (18.03.2016)

By the way, still the price is 177.000 Passat’t need to get models of new plug-ins, so that the Motor fails. Approximately 5500 E-Golf in the US could remain because of a hypersensitive shut-off device. In the case of 800.000 all-terrain vehicles of the type Touareg and Porsche Cayenne brake pedals are hung securely.

The current recall is the fourth that has been known in the past two weeks, while the much greater Problem, “diesel’s gate” is still very far from a solution.

And “diesel’s gate” there are also…

VW need to convert in the USA anyway, hundreds of thousands of Diesel because the group must remove the illegal Software to the Trick of exhaust-Tests of the vehicles. So far, the wolf Burger, but could not agree with the U.S. EPA on a Plan for the elimination of the fraud programs.

The manufacturer must put in the “diesel-gate” affair, which relates to the world, eleven million cars, with hundreds of civil lawsuits and criminal investigations apart. It threatens not only the high Conversion and buy-back costs penalties in the billions.

In this country, the patience wanes

In Germany, VW has to call this year, 2.5 million vehicles in the workshops. So far, only a few Thousand Pick-ups of type Amarok are converted. The first diesel variants of the sedan VW Passat with the scandal-engine EA-189 had supposed to be already in the ninth calendar week from the end of February in the workshops. However, the Federal motor transport authority (KBA) had also issued up to Friday still no release for the elimination of anti-fraud Software.

Meanwhile, the Opposition is considering in the Bundestag the setting up of a Committee of inquiry to the VW scandal. If transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) contributions, finally, to the enlightenment, would be a Committee of inquiry a means, “to finally bring transparency in the collusion between the Federal government and the auto industry,” said Green party Vice Oliver Krischer. As the “Spiegel” magazine reported without naming sources, want to request the Opposition to the establishment of the panel in April.

Consumer advocates and the ADAC requested Dobrindt, on a VW. The concerned driver of the VW diesel vehicles would finally have the security that, due to the Software fraud, no financial disadvantages such as loss of value in the car. If need be, the group must assure, to fill in.
