The Bobs 2016: The voting begins

You are the 126 finalists of the Online competition “The Bobs – Best of Online Activism”. This means: The User can now vote for whom you awarded want to see. The voting ends on 1. May.

For this year’s “The Bobs” Award – Best of Online Activism – the Internet submitted by users from all over the world, more than 2,300 suggestions. We would like to thank all the participants for this great support!

After long discussions, the members have now agreed to 126 finalists. The nominations include five finalists for each of the 14 languages in which the award is to be awarded, as well as 14 finalists for each of the four thematic categories: Social change, Tech for Good, art and culture, as well as citizen journalism.

From the 31. March 2016 can the User on the page
thebobs.com will give the Websites, Apps, people, or projects of their voices that they find most convincing, and so the winners of the audience awards. Winner of this year’s competition, the candidates, the unite the most votes. Everyone can participate in the Voting on may 2. May ends.

At the same time, a Jury of experts, the awards the Jury Awards in the multilingual categories meets in Berlin.

“We congratulate all the participants and projects were nominated for The Bobs in 2016. 12 Years Of The Bobs

For twelve years, the Deutsche Welle awards of the competition “The Bobs” people fighting for freedom of speech and Online activism to stand up. Previous winners of the Awards, among other things, Yoani Sánchez (Cuba), Lina Ben Mhenni (Tunisia), Ushahidi (Kenya), the sunlight Foundation (USA), Li Chengpeng (China) and Alaa Abd El-Fattah (Egypt).

“There are a whole series of awards, which are characteristic of the commitment to freedom of speech, human rights, traditional journalism and technology. But there is no other price that has a comparable scope,” says Jury member Georgia Popplewell, managing Director
Global Voices.

“The flexibility of the Bobs respond to the rapid changes in the digital space, the price especially,” she added.
