USA expand their air strikes against the IS in Afghanistan

At the beginning of the year, President Obama had his generals more leeway granted in the fight against the IS. Since then, the jihadists in the Hindu Kush are increasingly in the crosshairs, reports the New York Times.

In the past two months, the series of air strikes had been intensified against the fighters of the “Islamic state” (IS) significantly, writes the American newspaper “New York Times” citing high-ranking commanders. American fighter jets and drones three times as much as in the same period of the previous year, had been fired in January and February approximately 250 bombs and missiles on targets in Afghanistan, it is said with reference to data from the U.S. Air Force.

The bombings were a response to the decision by President Barack Obama of the beginning of 2016, to give his troops more leeway for attacks against the IS terrorists. This would have gained control of territory in several provinces, for example in the Tora Bora Region, where once Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden had fled. Campbell called for the same impact force against the radical Islamic Taliban. Their regained strength makes amerilka niches and Afghan military even greater concern than the much weaker IS jihadis in the Hindu Kush.
