The ceo of IBM is replaced by a woman. The 54-year-old Virginia Rometty follows the sixty-year old Samuel Palmisano. Rometty has been working since 1981 at IBM and started as a technician, but climbed quickly within the company.
Rometty began in 1981 as an engineer at IBM and rose rapidly within the organization. For example, she was responsible for the dienstendivisie of IBM and she is currently responsible for sales, marketing and strategic direction. She is also senior vice president. Her predecessor, Palmisano was since 2002 ceo.
It is the second time in a short period of time that a woman lead a large technology company. HP replaced in september, Léo Apotheker by Meg Whitman. Although it is the first time that a woman to lead IBM in their hands, played the gender not play a role, the retiring ceo.
