CINEMA favorites: the ten best German dramas
“Favorites” is the name of the new series of MOVIES. In episode 1 we present the best German dramas, including an Anti-war film, a love story between Hamburg and Istanbul and a political GDR-Thriller.

Course 10: The young Törless
In 1966, Volker Schlöndorff’s “young Törless turned” after a novel by Robert Musil. The Drama about a young boarding-school student in the K. and K. monarchy was the actor Mathieu Carrière to the Star and his Director to a specialist for literary adaptations. Carrière addictions plays in schlöndorff’s Film of a young man between adolescence and morality, rebellion, and secret desires.

Director Christian Petzold is today one of the recognized filmmakers of German cinema. Its cooling staged contemporary dramas fascinate with a very cool style. Nearly 15 years after the end of the Second world war, Bernhard Wicki presented with “The bridge,” an outstanding Anti-war movie. The story of seven 16-year-old German, shortly before the end of the war, sent in a sense of use, still impressed today. “The bridge” is done with a strong young cast, and a brutally-accurate views of the war.

Seat 7: Aguirre, the wrath of God
Werner Herzog and Klaus Kinski, was a legendary partnership in the German cinemas. In 1972, the Director turned the South American Drama “Aguirre, the wrath of God.” The original locations directed Film tells the fictional story of Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century. Century. The documentary “My beloved enemy” (1999, photo) about Klaus Kinski was born years later.

The Boy is serving a prison sentence, the Older in the custody of the piano Institute teaches. “Four minutes” tells their story, shaped by the past of the two different women.

What are the best German movies of all times? This question was the starting point for the CINEMA Team was: With the new series of the Deutsche Welle film magazine, they should be answered.
But faster than expected and the problems came. What is real is the best films? The most successful? The reviews with the best film? Or the one with the greatest influence? To measure of cinema tickets sold, the international sales or at the festival awards?
We found out that there are movies that made their debut for a great response, which faded, however, in the course of time. Others that were initially ignored, are now regarded as masterpieces.
An objective selection, there is not – each favourite list is subjective
Of course, every member of the CINEMA team has a different opinion. Especially when it comes to movies. That’s the beauty of the cinema! So, it was soon clear, we don’t want to pay box office results, sales, Oscar wins, or other supposedly objective lists leave, but on ourselves, on our subjective views. Therefore, our series of CINEMA-favorites, our favorite movies, our best German movies. You have a different opinion, we have ours.
The CINEMA editors selected: 10 best film dramas
A century of German film in a “Top Ten”list to pack quite impossible, and so we have divided the series into categories and Genres: “drama”, “Comedy”, “Berlin films”, “Thriller” and others.
And some of the rules there are, of course, but A movie can only show up in a category, a Director will only be once per list. Werner Herzog is for us, for example, one of the greatest German Directors. But it will not show up six of his films in the list of the best dramas.
From silent film classics to the GDR-Stasi-Drama
Our CINEMA favorite series starts with the ten best German dramas.
This was the most controversial of the list. But we believe we have found the ultimate selection of the best German dramas, which includes not less than nearly a century of German film history of Fritz Lang’s Science-Fiction classic “Metropolis” to Michael Haneke’s “The white ribbon”.
