German-Tunisian pilot project in deportations

The Maghreb countries want to cooperate in the deportation of their nationals from Germany better. If so, however, the number of returns increases, remains to be seen.

At the end of his Maghreb tour, the German interior Minister Thomas de Maizière has also agreed in Tunisia accelerated deportation in Germany, rejected asylum-seekers. In a pilot project, first of all, 20 Tunisians in their country of origin, like the German Minister, after a Meeting with head of the government, Essid in Tunis, Habib said.

The connection should then be an agreement on “a regular repayment of the Tunisians, in Germany, are obliged to leave the country,” explained de Maizière. Up to 25 Tunisians per flight should be brought back in a specially provided Charter machines. The Federal government provides, accordingly, the accompanying police officers, and is responsible for the costs.

Only a few 10,000 refugees affected

Since Sunday, the CDU had received politicians in Morocco and Algeria similar Commitments. The Moroccan government’s agreement goes the furthest: The government in Rabat, will in the future respond within 45 days, if the German authorities finger to submit fingerprints to establish the identity of obliged to leave the country refugees.

The arrangements are primarily related to 2015 come Moroccans, Algerians and Tunisians. Their number is compared to the more than one Million registered refugees, however, is small: From Morocco of around 10,000 people, from Algeria to almost 14,000, and from Tunisia were not even registered 2000 refugees. Your chances of being granted asylum in Germany are low.

Tunisia is A safe country of origin?

Cooperation on security issues

About the deportations, Germany and Tunisia want to deepen their cooperation in security issues, such as de Maizière in Tunis announced. The concern the training of Tunisian security authorities in the border security, particularly in unstable neighboring country Libya, the common fight against terrorism and the “more constructive work, that we can recommend in good conscience for German tourists to take a vacation in Tunisia,” said the guest from Berlin.

The editorial recommends

Algeria’s Worries begin in the case of terrorism and not to listen to the low Oil price for a long time. Germany’s Minister of interior offers support and get the new friends for important Commitments. (01.03.2016)

Since the incidents at the Cologne Cathedral square in the new year’s eve deportation the North Africans to be as fast as possible from Germany deported. Morocco and Algeria were willing to cooperate. (29.02.2016)

In the face of thousands of exit paid North Africans, the Federal government wants to move the Minister of the interior of the Maghreb States to a simplified withdrawal in Germany, rejected asylum-seekers. First stop is Morocco. (28.02.2016)

Head of the government, Essid, expressed the expectation that the talks “fresh Wind” in the English-Tunisian relations.

Significant hurdles still waiting

De Maizière sees his trip generally, as a success. His talks in the Maghreb countries, he called it “very satisfactory”, “closely and intensively” as well as “constructive”.

But the real effect will show up only in the long term. In the implementation, there could be problems only on the side of the North African States. Also, the German authorities have to deliver once the fingerprints for the identification of North African citizens, if these are thrown away in the hope of asylum in Germany, their passports, and as a Syrian civil war refugees have spent.

There are still some logistical and organizational problems, because so far not at all competent German Authorities fingerprints were taken, admitted by the German Minister of the interior. Also, it is for the overworked staff in the competent Offices, the demand of the Maghreb countries to comply with, among the hundreds of thousands of unprocessed asylum applications quickly to their citizens.
