Comment: The hope dies last!

The result of the parliamentary elections in Iran, speaks a clear language. The voters have supported the reformers is clear. Jamsheed Faroughi says that the hardliners should not be ignored.

A Jewish proverb says: When there are only two ways to choose the third! There actually is no better explanation for the political behavior of Iranians. You have decided in the parliamentary election for the third way. There’s a boycott of the election of a complete defeat of the reformers would come, and the disempowerment of the hardliners was hopeless, the thought of the reformers with a new Plan: their aim was to weaken the Conservatives. So you set up a list with the only few remaining and authorized reformers, with moderate Conservatives and with so-called “Independent rates”. This list was called “list of hope”. And this hope has prevailed.

The victory of the reformers and the moderate forces of President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran, shows the political maturity of the people in the capital of Iran. Although the majority of the seats in the Council of experts remains, across the country, in the hands of the Conservatives, but their dominance in the Parliament, your Reputation is at serious risk.

Democracy with obstacles

The members of the expert Council and the Parliament are directly elected by the citizens. This looks very democratic, but in reality, anything other than that.

The elections in Iran are neither free nor fair, know the Iranians. All the candidates were strictly checked for heart and kidneys. Only those who are the System “absolutely faithful”, were allowed to run. But even absolute Loyalty brings no automatic ticket as a certified candidate. Ultimately, the Council of guardians decided, an instrument of the totalitarian religious state.

The Council of guardians was now clearly the domain of the Conservatives. The twelve-member body consists of six clerics and six lawyers. The clergy members of the guardian Council are directly appointed by the Supreme religious leader. The lawyers are elected by the Parliament. Since the candidates for the Parliament were also examined previously by the guardian Council and the election approved, and the Council of guardians remains an instrument of power in the hands of the officiating religious leader, Ali Khamenei.

All the unwanted candidates for the parliamentary election were gradually sorted out, and landed on a black list. Even Hassan Khomeini, grandson of Ayatollah Khomeini, the leader of the revolution and founder of the Islamic Republic, was not allowed to stand. From a political calculation out of the well-known Reformer of the elections were excluded. The exclusion of reformists from the elections this time was pronounced even particularly. In many election reformers not a single candidate had districts. Or was there in other districts in the same seats as the number of approved candidates. So there should be no Surprises.

Hope in time of Need

In spite of all the limitations the people have given in to Iran with her voice a clear message. The need to understand the Conservatives and the faster and better you do, the more stable the country is.

Iran is always good for a Surprise, this Time, too. The Iranians have on the one hand, the reformers and the moderates elected forces, on the other hand, the hardliners punished. What has been achieved, the Iranians with the victory of the “list of hope”?

The voters have shown that they do not support the course of the hardliners. You have shown that the Era of the provocative foreign policy is over. You have shown that you are for social openness and political relaxation. You have shown that you have learned from the terrible fate of a political instability in Iraq, in Afghanistan and in Syria a lot, and you are not ready to run in the dark with the head against the wall.
