Friday: Infantino “not as a reformer, noticed”

A new President, Yes, but the old roped in the FIFA remain. Says the Chairman of the Sportausschusses in the German Bundestag, Dagmar Friday, in the DW-Interview.

DW: woman’s Friday, the FIFA has, with Gianni Infantino a new President. This is also the right man for a new beginning?

Dagmar Freitag: He is now elected. One has, of course, in the run-up to both him, as well as in candidate Sheikh Salman big question marks have to do because of their past. They were both in international football, closely interwoven. Therefore, one must look at what Mr. Infantino from his new role.

What do you expect from him?

In the UEFA, he is not yet necessarily as the great reformer noticed. Since he was after all, the Secretary-General and thus also the right Hand of Platini. The first is of no business card, the expectation fanning: now is FIFA facing a new start. On the other hand, he now has a code, the FIFA today, has adopted the so-called reform package. He can’t ignore. As you will see, as you look at the implementation. He is now responsible for that, what with a large majority was, in fact, implemented. Otherwise it will not succeed, credibility to regain.

The editorial recommends

Even before the choice was Gianni Infantino as one of the two favorites on the Blatter’s successor. Now sit with him a veteran functionary in the President’s chair, however, a without FIFA past.

The crisis-ridden football world governing body FIFA is on Friday at an extraordinary Congress in Zurich, the course for the future. Matched is about the new FIFA boss, and on the Reform of the Association. (25.02.2016)

The extraordinary FIFA Congress intended the crisis-ridden football Federation back in calmer waters – a chronological review of the corruption affair since 2010. (26.02.2016)

It is, among other things, to restrict the Power of the President. Moves FIFA with this package of reforms towards a transparent and democratically organized Association?

On the paper already. If this is actually implemented and not just a sheet of paper remains, then it would be already relatively progressive, if you look at international Sport in General look at. Since there are still significant things: the transparency in salaries, limitations on terms of office, and the like. But the question is, is it Infantino succeed, with the personnel that surrounds him, in fact, these reforms through? Because it is only a new President, and all other operations remain, of course.

So we need a completely new world, preferably under a different name than before?

That would be the ideal. But it will, of course, not give. It will be critical for you to FIFA understands that one is absolutely at a crossroads. And if Infantino understood and fellow looking for, then may be hope. But I think we will all only once in silence have to look at.

New: FIFA President Gianni Infantino

Would be an outsider for the FIFA not have been a better choice, someone not from the old boys ‘networks” originated?

The sounds, of course, once very reasonable, but who the structures of international Sport knows that without the years of networking, there no Chance at all. And thus explains it by itself, never someone from the outside have a Chance. You must be over years of relationships, networks, networks constructed have to be in a Position to come.

Dagmar Freitag (SPD) since 2009 Chairman of the Sportausschusses in the German Bundestag.
