Mexican fishermen hold their breath

What have sharks, rays and humans have in common? They all have lobsters to the Fr(food) like. So there is no short, work animal rights activists in Mexico to sustainable methods of fishing for the crustaceans.

On the East coast of Mexico is located the biosphere reserve of Sian Ka’an, which in Mayan language means “place where the sky was born”. It is a unique Ecosystem with fish, crocodiles, sharks and turtles. The people earn their living with the Langustenfischerei, and a particularly gentle: Without oxygen dive up to 15 meters in depth and get lobsters alive on Board the fishing boat. Laichende females and small juveniles can return alive be released. And all lobsters, which are more than 15 meters in the depth of life, are spared. This also has a positive effect on the Rest of the Ecosystem, because crayfish are food for many other animals. The biologist Kim Ley-Cooper is working with the fishermen together, he would like the lobster to explore and thus contribute to the protection.
