Ziggo will start soon with a trial in which a ‘much higher’ speed of internet connection is offered. An unknown number of customers may be the higher internet speed to test. How high the new speed is, is not known.
Ziggo spokesman Gradus Vos stresses that the trial is not to say that the speed is actually entered, though it seems to the letter to customers what to know any more surely then. “Soon introduces Ziggo internet with a much faster speed”, as stated in the letter. “From the trial must show what we may be going to enter,” says spokesperson for Fox. “We look constantly at new speeds.”
At this time, provides Ziggo a maximum internet speed of 180 megabits per second. UPC, the parent company of Ziggo has acquired, offers a top speed of 200Mbit/s. UPC and Ziggo will be available later this year will merge to a single provider; it is therefore obvious that UPC also ‘much higher’ speed is going to offer. UPC to let you know about that nothing to say. In 2013, it appeared that UPC test with speeds of 500 megabits per second.
With the higher speeds wants Ziggo presumably to better compete with fiber, that in some places in the Netherlands much higher speeds than the cable offers. For example, the small provider Tweak in Almere and Enschede internet with a download speed of 1Gbit/s. KPN offers on fiber optic speeds of up to 500Mbit/s symmetrical.
