“Panasonic is showing a prototype blu-ray player for 4k-video”

Panasonic has Monday at the CES trade show in Las Vegas a prototype shown of a blu-ray player that can handle 4k video. This is the electronics manufacturer as far as is known the first with a player for such content.

The player supports 4k video with a resolution of 3840 by 2160 pixels. This keeps the Japanese electronics group said in the forefront when it comes to the application of the new standard for 4k content on blu-ray discs. It is expected that technology used for uhd video later passage is found in the next generation standards this year.

The Panasonic prototype supports the so-called BT.2020-standard for uhd tvs, which is intended to be a lot more colors to be able to display for example ‘normal’ blu-rays or dvds. Furthermore, the player also compression thanks to the support of the H265/hevc standard, which lead to that data with bitrates up to 100 mbit/s can be read.

Panasonic still shows nothing about when the player on the consumer market appears. It also says the company nothing about the price. However, stresses the Panasonic that it is hard will continue to work on the adoption of 4k content, something it is trying to achieve through the UHD Alliance. That is a new cooperative of manufacturers and content producers to the consumption of 4k content to promote the 4k technology to improve.
