“Manufacturers and content producers to collaborate in UHD Alliance”

Companies like Samsung, LG, Sony, Panasonic and Sharp have joined the UHD Alliance. Also content producers such as Disney, Warner Bros. and Netflix have joined. Goal is to make the consumption of 4k content to hunt and the 4k technology to improve.

The creation of the UHD Alliance at CES by Samsung made public. The primary objective of the alliance is to make more uhd content available. Therefore, in addition to a variety of major electronics companies, various content producers to be part of the grouping. Among others, Netflix, Fox, Disney and Warner Bros. do. Furthermore, Technicolor and Dolby joined the UHD Alliance.

Except the goal to bring more 4k content to produce, the parties also look to see how the quality of uhd material can be improved. Use they terms such as ‘high dynamic range’, ‘wide color gamut’ and ‘immersive audio’, without going into detail about the exact meaning of it.

Another bottleneck where the UHD Alliance want to look into is how uhd material can be optimally distributed. Companies like Netflix and Amazon deliver currently is limited 4k content over the internet, but the first blu-ray movies and players that are suitable for native 4k are yet to appear. Further it must be 4k-hardware mutual better be made compatible. To these goals, says the UHD Alliance in the coming months as the first to start work on the drafting of a roadmap.
