“The developer has Quake running on an oscilloscope”

A developer has managed to get Quake working on an oscilloscope, a device which normally variations in voltages are measured. The maker has a video demo released.

On his website explains the Fin Pekka Väänänen out how Quake has been installed on the oscilloscope. First, he wrote a simulator in Processing that can run on the meetapparaatje: thus, the required lines on the image rendered. The necessary code is released under an open source license and can Github be downloaded. In addition there were several operations to the objects from Quake to convert to lines on the oscilloscope, which Väänänen describes on his website.

In a demonstration video shows Väänänen see how Quake can be played on the oscilloscope. The video shows that the game, as far as possible, works well on the device. Is the author unhappy about the performance: there would be only 1000 lines at a time are shown. Faster drawing of lines would the quality not for good, says Väänänen. The model used is a Hitachi V-422.

Väänänen has several other hobbyprojecten to his name. So he made a robot out of lego that can play the drums on the basis of a melody. Also the robot can move a little bit to improvise.
