Mikko Tat lwa nen, a Finnish beveiligingsexpert, has a virtual malwaremuseum accessed on the Internet Archive. The museum consists mainly of a collection of pc viruses from the eighties and nineties of the twentieth century.

Together with Jason Scott, among others, administrator of softwarecollecties on the Internet Archive, said Hyppönen the collection of viruses for The Malware Museum together. It goes to MS-DOS viruses that appear in a Dos Box emulator. The viruses are stripped of their malicious routines.

malware_MARINE.COM and malware_COFFESHOP.COM

The collection includes only viruses that, after infection, an animation or communication showed that the user’s computer were infected. Some virus authors have produced just fun animations, others decided that their virus could serve as a platform to make their political preference known to make, or for any other form of activism. The collection consists so far of 65 copies. Unfortunately, it is not on when the relevant exhibits their heyday celebrated.

The oldest known MS-DOS computer virus is Brain, unfortunately not yet in the museum. Brain came out in January 1986; last month there was even a video about it on Tweakers.
