Samsung takes Cyanogenmod developer

Steve Kondik, one of the people behind the Cyanogenmod rom for Android smartphones, go to work for Samsung. Kondik manages to Cyanogenmod especially roms for HTC’s. Cyanogenmod is the most popular custom rom on Android.

Kondiks contract with Samsung came to light through an update of his Facebook profile. Therein he is currently working as a software engineer at Samsung Mobile. In a comment let Kondik know that Cyanogenmod will continue to work and that the project is separate from the new employer.

Cyanogenmod is a custom version of Android where a large group of developers contributes. The development started with the release of Android 1.5 and since that time the team has with every new major Android release a version of Cyanogenmod issued. Some of the features that it adds to Android are support for OpenVPN, the ability of themes to use, an incognito mode for the browser, and support for gestures on the lockscreen. The most recent Cyanogenmod, version 7, is based on Android 2.3.5 and it runs on about 30 different Android devices.

A few months ago provided Samsung some Cyanogenmod developers of free Galaxy S II devices so that they could get a port of the firmware. It is striking that Kondik not belong to that group; he is primarily concerned with support of HTC devices. Or he is now only work on Cyanogenmod for Samsung phones is not known.
