Photos and details on the latest BlackBerry OS device to dive on

The first photos of the BlackBerry Curve Touch 9380 have appeared on the internet. RIM has the device, presumably the latest BlackBerry OS, not yet announced. Tweakers.net obtained further info about the device.

The Curve Touch has, in contrast to earlier devices in the Curve line does not have a keyboard. The device has only a touchscreen and below that, the BlackBerry buttons and a trackpad. The screen has a diagonal of 3.2″.

The processor is not Qualcomm MSM8255, as in the other BlackBerry’s that were recently announced, but a Marvell PXA930, such as in the Bold 9780 and Torch 9800 from 2010. This appears from the info that Tweakers.net obtained. The screen has a resolution of 480×360, the same as the Torch 9800 and Storm 2 from 2009.

The Curve Touch is supposedly the latest BlackBerry with the Java-based BlackBerry OS. RIM announced that there are seven devices should come with BlackBerry OS 7. There are now five known: the Bold 9900 and 9930, the Torch 9810 and the Torch 9850 and 9860.

The sixth is believed to be the Curve 9360, which looks at the current Curves, and a qwerty keyboard. The Curve 9360 has just like the Curve 9380 a screen with a resolution of 480×360 pixels, and a Marvell PXA processor. Pictures of Curve 9360 emerged recently.

RIM spent a part of the development of BlackBerry OS from to Sun, the developer of Java. Sun, however, was acquired by Oracle, which is not wanted to work with RIM. Then decided RIM BlackBerry OS phasing out in favor of it last year purchased the Neutrino OS from QNX. QNX software is running on BlackBerry tablet PlayBook. The OS for smartphones will be co-designed by The Astonishing Tribe, a design company that RIM last year took over, and that also has been responsible for the look of Android 1.0 and 1.5. The first QNX-blackberrys appear in early 2012, probably at the end of the winter.
